Completed Project
Sewage sludge treatment plant Zagreb, Croatia
Beside sewer network and infrastructure connection and development in Zagreb, the scope of the project included the expansion of the city’s central sewage treatment works to a capacity of 1.2 million PE. The project was successfully completed and implemented in 2007. The accomplished sewage treatment plant will be operated by WTE until 2028.
Beside the biological technology for water treatment, the plant provides sludge fermentation for the purpose of biogas generation, as well as a combined heat and power station for the generation of electricity in order to minimise energy costs and residual materials. More regenerative energy is generated than is actually required for the secure operation of the plant.
They are also considering the option of future incineration of the sewage sludge on site in a fluidised bed furnace with a capacity of approximately 100,000 t/a.
